First Line Support (PE-FLS)

Meet Patrick Valencia, who has been a member of our EUV production team since 2014. As our First Line Support for PE-FLS [Production Engineering – First Line Support] at our San Diego, California office, Patrick controls contamination in the cleanroom as well as supports production processes.

Originally from Albuquerque, New Mexico, Patrick previously worked in sales at Fox Riders Co.

“I discovered Cymer/ASML through my father who had started working here a couple of years before I started. I recall him constantly talking about the technology and how excited he was to be a part of the journey that this company is on. I became more interested as we continued talking about the different things he was learning here.”

In September of 2014, Patrick began working at our San Diego location on a variety of projects including EUV gowning transition, 5S+1 (an element of Lean manufacturing) Implementation and Calibration Reconciliation.

“I decided to work at Cymer/ASML because of the potential to learn and grow here. The technology is on the cusp of evolving and I wanted to be a part of it. Once I started working here, I immediately knew I was going  to enjoy the work. Now that I’ve been here for several years and I’ve been exposed to not only San Diego, but all of the ASML sites, it’s very intriguing to observe the integration of the major scanner components.”

Now as First Line Support, Patrick performs assessments and provides improvements and recommendations on cleanroom facility design, inspection, cleaning and packaging procedures, ways of working and identifying sources of contamination that impact the product performance. In addition, he also supports production and factory operations as the first line of support and acts as a liaison to tool owners when production tools are down or need troubleshooting.

“My favorite part about our company are the endless opportunities to learn about things that you normally wouldn’t get exposed to at other companies. Within the first few months of working here, I had already felt like I learned a lot in such a short period of time. It’s exciting to work here and each day is unique and has its challenges. No matter how challenging the day may be, it’s always nice to know that we have a great team of talented and motivated individuals to overcome these challenges together. I enjoy the self-gratification of solving problems and improving processes that benefit others and their daily work.”

Patrick is currently working toward his BA in Operations Management and Analysis from Ashford University and plans to graduate early 2020 . Outside of work, he enjoys watching Steelers football, attending amusement parks, being outdoors, and relaxing by the BBQ pit.
