Name: Nick Yap
Title: Program Development Manager
Location: San Diego, Calif.
Start date: July, 2015
As a Southern California native, Nick spent his adult life moving in and out of San Diego, California. He attended undergrad and graduate school at the University of California – Santa Barbara where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and a Master’s degree in Electronics and Photonics.
Nick spent much of his time inside UC of Santa Barbara’s cleanrooms fabricating Si & GaAs/AlGaAs transistors. This activity enticed him to stay in the Semiconductor industry while looking for employment opportunities in San Diego.
“I knew someone who worked for Cymer and good things were said about the company. It was a good decision. The company offers a lot of career development opportunities in a great location.”
Nick’s role is to reduce dead-on-arrival part rates and improve Cymer’s light source serviceability at customer sites. This project is part of the DUV Availability Initiative.
“Every day, I work with the Core team to make these product improvements available to our customers. I’m exposed to different parts of the business where I’m always learning how to solve product challenges. I love how much our light source products affect technology and gadgets people use every day. It’s really cool to tell friends and family the company I work for helps create the microchips that power their phones. People here are remarkably smart; everyone makes a strong effort to work as a team.”
Although Nick has moved in and out of Southern California, he’s no stranger to living abroad. Nick spent nine years in Singapore and Indonesia before his family moved to San Diego. Outside of work, you may find Nick playing competitive two-on-two beach and six-on-six indoor volleyball. You can find him on the court year round in one of San Diego’s finest beach communities; Ocean or Mission Beach. During the summer, he’ll be busy competing in California Beach Volleyball Association tournaments.
