Meet Melissa Depweg, our Senior Manager of the Data Science and Analytics team.
“We’re focused on building predictive models, complex analytics, and supporting various departments with visualization dashboards and analysis. I also serve as the champion for the Analytics Community of Practice (ACoP), Data Governance, and the Data, Analysis, and Technology Applications (DATA) affinity group.”
Originally a Poway, California native, Melissa left San Diego for college in Rohnert Park, California to attend Sonoma State University for her Bachelor’s degree in Applied Mathematics and Computer Science. She returned to San Diego to attend UCSD for her Master’s degree in Statistics and to be closer to family.
After college, Melissa worked at Metron, a small defense contracting firm, as an analyst focused on modeling and simulation for potential war scenarios. Eventually, Melissa decided it was time for a change and began work at Cymer as a Statistician in the Analytical Services department.
“I wanted to work on something that would have an impact on people’s daily lives rather than what-if/war-time scenarios, plus it was a much better commute!”
Fast forward 11 years and Melissa is now a Cymer employee veteran for over a decade.
“My favorite part of working at Cymer is collaborating with really smart people and constantly adapting to what Cymer needs. Our work with the ACoP and the DATA affinity group has been very exciting this year and I’m grateful to help bring together so many people who have a passion around data. Plus, there’s always something new and challenging to work on. We work hard, but we also have fun while doing it.”
Outside of work, Melissa enjoys settling down with a good book, hiking the many trails in San Diego, backpacking, and spending time with her husband and daughter.
“You can often find me walking with my husband on the weekend or cheering on my 15 year-old daughter at her cross-country meets or lacrosse games.”
