Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
Robert P. Akins, co-founder, has served as our chairman and chief executive officer since our inception in 1986. He currently serves on the board of directors of KLA-Tencor Corporation and Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International (SEMI). He is also a member of the council of advisors to the Irwin and Joan Jacobs School of Engineering at the University of California, San Diego (“UCSD”), and has served on the board of the UCSD Foundation. Mr. Akins received the SEMI North America Award for contributions to the field of DUV lithography, the outstanding alumnus award from UCSD, and the 2007 William W. Otterson Award, which is awarded to the San Diego company whose products have demonstrated the most significant positive impact on society. Mr. Akins received bachelor’s degrees in physics and literature, and a doctorate in applied physics from UCSD.

President and Chief Operating Officer
Edward J. Brown, Jr. has served as our president and chief operating officer since his appointment in September 2005. From 1984 to 2005, Mr. Brown was employed at Applied Materials, Inc. where he held numerous high-level management positions including group vice president and senior advisor to the president, vice president and general manager of the Intel business unit, as well as managing director heading up their largest product division, global operations. Mr. Brown received a master’s degree in business administration from National University and a bachelor’s degree in industrial studies from San Diego State University.

Senior Vice President and Chief Technical Advisor
Richard L. Sandstrom, Ph.D., a co-founder of the company, currently serves as the senior vice president and chief technical advisor responsible for providing technical analysis to the Office of the CTO and carrying out focused technical investigations. Prior to his current position, Sandstrom served as senior vice president and chief technical officer since January 1999. Since the company's inception, he has served under various titles in the areas of research, development and technology, including vice president of advanced research and vice president of technology, and has been instrumental in driving Cymer's technology innovation. Sandstrom, with fellow co-founder Bob Akins, received the outstanding alumnus award from UCSD, and the prestigious SEMI Award for North America, the highest honor conferred by SEMI, in 1996 for contributions to the field of DUV lithography. He received a bachelor's degree in physics and a doctorate in engineering physics from the University of California, San Diego.

Senior Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Secretary
Paul B. Bowman has served as our senior vice president, chief financial officer and secretary since his appointment in October 2009. From December 2008 until his appointment as chief financial officer in October 2009, he served as our interim chief financial officer, treasurer and secretary. From May 2008 until December 2008, Mr. Bowman served as our vice president of investor relations. Prior to joining us, Mr. Bowman served as chief financial officer of American Mold Guard, Inc. from April 2006 to April 2008. From 1996 to April 2006, Mr. Bowman was employed at Applied Materials, Inc., holding positions as the managing director of investor relations, managing director of finance for worldwide manufacturing and controller of the worldwide service division. Mr. Bowman received a bachelor’s degree in finance from Shippensburg State University.

Daniel Brown, Ph.D.

Vice President, Technology Development Officer
Daniel Brown, Ph.D., currently serves as Vice President and Technology Development Officer for Cymer, Inc. In this role since 2010, he previously held the positions of Vice President, Technology Development and Vice President, Engineering within the Deep-Ultraviolet Product Group. In his current role, he is chartered with overseeing the technology activities for the company’s EUV light source development and deep-ultraviolet light source products to meet the demands of the semiconductor marketplace. Prior to joining Cymer in 2000, Brown a served for over 11 years in various Australian Research Council Fellow positions at Macquarie University (located in Sydney, Australia) including Australian Senior Research Fellow and Australian Research Fellow, responsible for development of novel high-power ultraviolet laser sources based on nonlinear frequency conversion of high-pulse-rate laser systems. Dr. Brown holds a Doctorate degree in physics and a Bachelor’s degree in science from the University of New England in Australia.

Karen K. McGinnis

Vice President, Corporate Controller and Accounting Officer
Karen K. McGinnis has served as vice president, corporate controller, and chief accounting officer since her appointment in November 2009. Prior to joining us, Ms. McGinnis was employed by Insight Enterprises, Inc., a Fortune 500 global provider of information technology hardware, software and services, as chief accounting officer from September 2006 until March 2009 and as senior vice president of finance from 2001 through September 2006. Ms. McGinnis is a certified public accountant and received her bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Oklahoma.
